Magalleria - Bath Trip

Our course trip centred on going to Magalleria in Bath, an independent magazine/book shop with specialist and exclusive titles. I splurged a little bit (a lot).

While the scenery was beautiful, being from York, the old architecture was not anything new to me. I decided instead to illustrate the interesting people I saw, and push my caricature and character drawing skills.

BOOKS

The New Fascist Body by Dagmar Herzog was my first read. It exceeded expectations and I ended up using a lot of what I learnt as a point of reference and inspiration for my Live Brief project.

It may seem counterintuitive as an illustration student to visit an independent magazine shop and leave with books that contain little to no imagery, but many of them became some of my strongest visual influences. Although they were primarily text-based, the ideas and philosophies they explored deeply informed the visual work I eventually created.
